January 04, 2018 | 1 | posted in

Want to keep your immune system at its healthiest? You need to try this golden milk recipe: It only takes a few minutes to make and has a slew of benefits. The star ingredient? Turmeric.

This golden spice has been dubbed the "spice of life", and for good reason. Curcumin, a compound found in turmeric, has anti-inflammatory properties that help boost immunity. Turmeric is naturally antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal: All properties that help keep your body going strong. As an added bonus, this spice is also great for relaxation, and can help soothe the body's aches and pains.

This is why golden milk is so popular: It's an easy, tasty way to incorporate more turmeric into your diet. Since the colder months are here, it's extra important to keep your immune system healthy. After all, no one wants to catch a cold or flu this time of year. Drinking this turmeric-based health tonic right before bed will relax you and boost your immune system while sleeping. Who could ask for a better way to end the day?

Golden Milk Recipe
Makes 2 Servings

Try drinking this at least three times a week, right before bed. This will aid in relaxation and help support your immune system as you sleep.

2 cups organic plant-based milk (almond, cashew, walnut or coconut milk all work great)
1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon turmeric
pinch of black pepper

Directions:

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together all the ingredients.
  2. Warm mixture over medium heat and continue whisking for 6 - 8 minutes.
  3. Serve warm and enjoy!

More on Turmeric: For Beauty & Wellness

Not a fan of golden milk? No worries: There are several ways to add more turmeric to your life. Did you know turmeric makes a great addition to your beauty routine? Turmeric isn't just an anti-inflammatory for your body, but your skin as well. It can help reduce redness on the skin and heal annoying pimples. Turmeric can also be snuck into a lot of recipes for added health benefits. Here are a few ways you can get more turmeric into (and onto) your body:

  1. Turmeric Smoothies  Prepare the ultimate anti-inflammatory smoothie by grating a chunk of turmeric root and adding it into a high-speed blender. Try combining it with fruits like mango, banana, and pineapple. Of course, feel free to get creative and experiment to see what works for you. Also, make sure to add a pinch of grated black pepper and some type of healthy fat or oil (like coconut oil) to the smoothie. This will further bring out the anti-inflammatory effects of turmeric.
  2. Turmeric-Infused Serum  We recommend trying the Graydon Superfood Serum. It's infused with turmeric, along with other antioxidant rich super foods like blueberry, raspberry, and cranberry seed oil. This offers your face a nutrient dense, anti-aging boost, all while fighting stubborn blemishes. Use this serum after cleansing and moisturizing your face for the best results. Just smooth a drop or two onto your face and you're set. It's velvety soft thanks to (gluten-free) oat oil which effortlessly absorbs into the skin.
  3. Turmeric Soup  Why not try making a turmeric-based soup? Just heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of grated ginger, and 1 teaspoon of crushed garlic to a pot. Add ½ teaspoon of ground turmeric and fry it for about one minute. Break one egg and put it in the pot, then sauté until cooked. Then, add one cup of water and heat until it comes to a boil. This soup is great for treating colds, but also makes a perfect meal on a cold day.
  4. Turmeric Spot Treatment  If you prefer a more direct spot treatment for pimples, we recommend trying the Province Apothecary Clear Skin Advanced Spot Treatment. It's infused with powerful organic turmeric oil: You only need one drop to see dramatic results. Apply it once a day to any red areas. This will get rid of pesky imperfections and restore your skin's natural glow.
  5. Turmeric-Infused Lotion  If you suffer from dry, irritated skin, The Putty by Graydon is exactly what you need. This lotion utilizes healing turmeric oil, making it especially formulated to calm inflamed, red skin. It's perfect for those who suffer from rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis because it can double as a face and body moisturizer. We suggest applying 1 - 2 pumps of The Putty after cleansing your face, morning and night. You will have smooth, hydrated skin in no time!

I whiten my teeth using tumeric powder. Take some non GMOed ground tumeric powder ( found at Zehrs or Goodness me) mix with distilled water and form a paste. Apply to individual teeth with a cotton swab. Before you slater teeth with paste wipe off saliva from each tooth with a Kleenex. Try to leave on teeth for 5mins. Then rinse and brush teeth as usual
